Signs And Symptoms of Mac Hard Drive Failure:

We receive calls from our Mac-using clients on a regular basis regarding the failures that they have encountered whilst using their Mac computers. Although the Apple Mac is considered to be (by some) of a superior quality to a Windows-based PC they can still encounter a whole host of problems that are similar to those the desktop PC faces. Among these are the physical failings of the hard drive as well as problems with the hard drive that have been caused by the firmware, conflicts with the operating system and the loss of important system files.

MAC OS Boot Up Problems:

A large number of our Mac-using clients have asked us for help in recovering their data when they have encountered problems booting up their machine. These problems at boot up are normally caused by problems with bad sectors, missing file structures, or the loss of firmware accessibility. Apple offers up a series of symbols which they call ‘Prohibitory Signs’; each one of them relating to a specific boot-up problem that may leave you unable to access your data. One such symbol is the ?. This alludes to a missing drive or a drive that cannot be mounted because files and necessary paths are missing. This can be the result of an incorrect format or the accidental deletion of a series of start-up file<. Whatever the reasons why at are on hand to help you recover your data.

Mac Problems With An Active Start-up Drive:

An active start-up drive (when talked about in relation to an Apple Mac) is the same as the boot disk Windows-based PC users speak of. This is simply the drive upon which the data required to boot the computer correctly is stored and can be either the main hard drive (in some instances the only drive in a Mac) or one of two drives in the setup. Many users use one drive for booting up and one for the storage of their data whilst users with one drive often partition the drive to accommodate for the storage of the operating system within it coming into contact with the data that has been produced by the user. This also allows for the recovery of the operating system should the partition fail and does so without the need to interfere with the saved data on the other data. However problems can arise if the disk has been defragmented and bad sectors or clusters have been encountered. If a firmware problem arises the partitioning of a drive will do nothing to prevent the drive from failing and to this end we at have been called upon to help our Mac customers retrieve their data from the active start-up drive.

Mac Hard Drive Circuit Board Or Electronic Failure:

As with all computers the drive within an Apple Mac has a printed circuit board that allows for information to be passed backwards and forwards between it and the other devices it is attached to. It also allows for the hard drive (using the firmware in-built) to determine at what speed it should be operating as well as allowing the device to take its place in line with the others when it comes to booting up. If this circuit board is damaged then the hard drive and its ability to function correctly are impaired and as a result the user may find they are unable to access their data.

Mac HDD Firmware Hitches:

Within any hard drive the firmware is as important to the drive’s correct operation as the hardware that physically makes the storing and reading of data possible. Firmware is a small but integral part of any device within a computer and as such the damage to firmware can make retrieval of data from the drive impossible. With this in mind we here at have been asked many times over our 15 years of trading to help customers retrieve data from their Macs when the hard drive’s firmware has ceased to function properly.

Mac Recovery

I have been using a Macbook Air MD711LL for about 2 moths mow, and I have saved some expensive apps, plus a number of other pieces of data, to the hard drive, none of which has been backed up to another location. I recently bought another app from the Apple Store, which included an OS update, and started it off. The computer crashed almost as soon as the app started running, and it now will not go into the operating system, but instead shows a grey folder with a flashing question mark. I learned from the problem manual that this means that the OS has been lost, and the hard drive might also be missing. I decided to close down the Macbook, and let it stay off for a few days before trying again. It worked for about 5 minutes, and then froze solid again. When it restarted, I saw the same folder and flashing question mark.

I need some help with a Macbook Air MD711LL which is having problems with data. I run a multiple-computer network system, and while none of the other computers are affected by this problem, I am constantly suffering folder loss with the Macbook Air. This usually happens when the internet fails, as I have to restart the laptop when this happens. When I get back into the desktop screen, I see that data previously stored on the Macbook has disappeared. This is a problem because the Macbook contains a number of specific data entry sheets which are used by our team when they are travelling. These data entry sheets are connected to the internet and are designed to be mailed to the company when they are completed. However, when the internet connection is lost, these emails and the data they contain disappear. I have looked in every file and folder on the system, and have not been able to find any of this data. This is very important information, and should be available to the business. I need to recover this data so that it can be used as it was intended.
