Seven jobs, written up by the people they happened to.
The seven accounts below were written by the customers, not by us. Between them: photographs recovered after the Mac Store passed a name along, documents returned at a price the owner could meet, a wedding job on an SD card, and the disk out of a notebook during the last semester of a degree. Spelling and phrasing arrive as they arrive — nothing has been tidied.

Patterns across the seven
- Three of the seven say what the hardware was, and all three named the same kind of thing — an external hard drive, a portable hard drive and a backup drive. Every one of them a disk that lives outside the computer, plugged in when it is wanted, and each has a page here of its own. The remaining four write about what was on it and never once say what it was sitting on.
- Seven towns, one customer apiece — Lincoln, Newark-on-Trent, Mansfield, Grantham, Beeston, Derby and Matlock, printed exactly as each person gave it. Every one of them sits in the counties this bench works for, and every one of those parcels came by post, because that is the only way anything reaches us.
- Nobody counts the days — not one of the seven mentions how long it took, and the live site published neither a date nor a star rating against any of them. So none is shown here. Inventing one would be the easiest thing on this page to do and the least honest.
- Money comes up once — a customer in Newark-on-Trent who decided to bite the bullet and pay a professional, and reckoned afterwards it was money well spent. Nobody else raises the subject at all.
- What was riding on it, in their own words — an entire electronic life on one external; so much important information that its owner in Grantham had given it up for good; a backup drive whose owner in Beeston meant to pass our details to his camera shop. Spectacular, devastated and grateful are their words, not ours.
Plainly put: not a line of this was written here. None of it was bought, none staged against a stock photograph, and none run through the tidying a review site would apply. Which is why one customer's surname is set as Mc Murray with a space in it, another's sentence simply stops after but money well spent, and a third puts an exclamation mark inside the bracket and the full stop outside it. All of it stays as typed. When your own job closes you will get the same request and no other — two or three honest lines, and your town if you do not mind giving it.
