Is a job from an NG33 village dearer than one in town?
No. Grantham's prices are the same as everywhere else, from one published price list. The first look is free. After it you get a single written figure, and that figure holds. Cards and USB sticks are £250 + VAT. A single hard disk is £300 + VAT. Multi-disk work (RAID, NAS, servers) starts at £500 + VAT, and CCTV and DVR recorders are £400 + VAT. In most cases you only pay if we recover your data.
There are clients' papers on that disk. Who gets to see them?
We do not write to your disk. We create a read-only image of it first, and all later attempts to recover your files are made against that copy, so your disk goes back to you in the state it arrived in. Your company name does not appear on the paperwork for your job; your case number does, and the engineer opens no file unless the recovery needs it. Thirty days after your drive has gone back, any copies of your data that remain with us are deleted, and the privacy policy sets all of this out in full.
The office NAS upstairs will not mount. Do we take the lid off?
Do not open it. Switch off the power at the wall straight away so it stops retrying, and do not let anyone run a rebuild. If the disks come out, label each one with the bay it sat in; if they cannot be removed, send the whole NAS in one piece. With a server or RAID set, removing the disks is always required, each labelled with its position in the chassis. Before taking a chassis apart, contact us first, and get a quote before anything is posted.
How does a drive reach the bench from Grantham?
Post it, once you have a quote. There is no counter in Grantham and none in Nottingham, so the parcel does the travelling; the only drop-off is the Manchester intake lab. Handed over tracked and insured at a post office in the town, it usually reaches the bench the next working morning. Please do not send the entire computer; send just the hard drive. Nobody pays for the first look, and we cover the postage home.
